Runaway Bride

Meet Nicola. Nicola’s epic wedding day started out at a picturesque cottage, somewhere in the hills and dales of Yorkshire. I got lost several times on the various dirt and stone tracks. But eventually I pootled my way to her, disturbing farmers and neighbours in my C1 that revved like a ride on lawn mower on the early June 2019 morning.

I don't think she'll mind me telling you that her wedding morning was unique.

I get lots of interesting requests for a wedding morning.

Like,”Can you do my future mother-in-law/ Great Aunt Gertrude/ Karen first/ last so she's not in the room all morning?”

“Can you make me nose look smaller/ eyes bigger/ tan lines disappear?”

“Can you make me look like Kim Kardashian?” No. That one is a hard no.

But ya, I get 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 requests a lot.

But Nicola was my first bride to ask if I would accommodate timing hair and makeup around a PARK RUN on her wedding day.

Yes you read that right. While most of my brides busy spending time with bridesmaids, calming last minute jitters or popping open a bottle of fizz, Nicola had built in time on her day to go for a park run, make a full breakfast for everyone (including me) and a shot of liquid courage in the form of rum. No morning fizz for her, thank you very much.

And do you know something? Despite it feeling a little frantic towards the end as I literally chased her around the idyllic bride squad cottage; AND despite having to convince her that I REALLY didn't need breakfast; AND despite her taking a shower and having to style wet hair without hair dryer… yes despite all that the entire wedding party looked beautiful, the morning was FULL of laughter and happiness and it is still one of the most memorable wedding parties I’ve every had the pleasure of serving.

Nicola and Julian were surrounded by family and friends as they wed at St. Peters Church, Sowerby and went to on to party the night away at Standedge Tunnel Visitor Centre. The details they included were so considered — a vintage bus, a boat ride, classic cars. It’s no wonder Your Yorkshire Wedding featured it in their Spring Issue.

Every wedding morning is different, and I anticipate as social distancing restrictions around COVID 19 are beginning to be eased, we'll see A LOT of new elements of wedding prep that hairstylists and makeup artists have never seen before.

But that doesn't mean we won't make you feel beautiful, and it certainly doesn't mean we won't have fun. Whatever special requests you might have for your day, make sure you work with people who will help make your day, your own.
