P R E T T Y F I E R C E • This fabulous fierce female is Lucy @harrogatemama and latest client of @independentstylecollab • I had the distinct pleasure of doing her makeup for her Branding update shoot and I’m going to tell you a secret... our time together was totally NOT just about the makeup! • This lovely lady is a serious force to be reckoned with and her blog is gold dust • It was a joy to get to know her a little better, sprinkle on some magic confidence (makeup, style and laughter) like ✨fairy dust ✨ and watch her absolutely ROCK her photoshoot 💪🏻• Lucy, you’re a total boss babe • Looking forward to our next collab!!! • 📸 @independentstylecollab
F O R T H E G I R L S • Happy 1 Month-aversary to @vickstar10 and hubster • 💖 Love 💖 this shot of gorgeous Vicky and her gang in final prep moments in the Bridal suite @dentonhall before she said I do • Such a fun morning to be a part of with @riasnewesthair on hair and @hamish.irvine behind the camera 📸 • Confession - I’ve been down the aisle twice so first time around I had 🇺🇸 5 bridesmaids 🇺🇸 while 🇬🇧 second time just 1 #maidofhonour 🇬🇧 • Who did / will you have with you on your big day to get you aisle ready? • Tell me ⤵️ •
E N O U G H • It’s not easy to walk the line of being a makeup artist (in an industry that so often tells us to conform to a pre selected idea of beauty and perfection) AND being a female entrepreneur committed to #empowering my clients • I’ll be exploring this topic (and lots more) tomorrow over with @sarahpearsonwood in my Contributing Editors posts but for today I feel like I would like to share this message (which keeps coming back to me) • YOU ARE ENOUGH • Right now. Not later when you’re prettier, older, thinner. Not once you’ve mastered the next skill. Not after you’ve achieved the next goal. • Right. Freakin’. Now. • So treat yourself like you would treat the version of yourself you want to be. That person might just show up. •
F E E L I N G S U N N Y • It’s gone all chilly outside but we were feeling sunshine-y on this gorgeous client shoot with @va_zoom • I love being part of branded shoots and helping clients be present in their business •
It may seem obvious that brand leaders and entrepreneurs need to show up in their business as more than an old school headshot • But why add hair & makeup? And do I add any other value to the mix? • I have a few answers to this question but let’s start with 3 •
1.Professional hair & makeup takes the pressure off you and adds instant confidence knowing you feel like like you, but on your very best day. A photoshoot day is NOT the day to try to hide behind colleagues OR props OR inhibitions •
2. Get the right message across without saying a word. Nonverbal communication isn’t just about body language. Get the image right from head to toe. •
3. Value added - In my previous life I was a PR and Media pro in Hollywood. On camera training and getting a brand message across are just some of marketing skills. Think what that could do for you on shoot day and beyond. • • So what are you waiting for? Let the sunshine in & see what we can do for you. @independentstylecollab

B I G D R E A M S • This was me one year ago. My last train ride commute to the security of my, dreaming of what my new adventure would bring. • Going full time freelance had been my pie 🥧 in the 🌌 sky dream since I started my new career in the beauty industry 10 years previously. • The reality of my LAST paycheque; my LAST shift; the finality of it all felt daunting. BUT the chance to live life on my own terms, to spend more time with my children and husband my and to follow my passion — that was pure excitement! • If you had told me then what this year would be I’m not sure I’d have believed you. • It’s not easy, but it is pure JOY. • Thank you to my amazing clients, incredible colleagues, my beautiful friends and family. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 • If you have a dream, don’t wait! Take the leap! • Here’s to new, even bigger dreams and life of abundance! 💖•
T W I S T S & S H O U T • When I first added hair styling to my Bridal Services I was terrified it wouldn’t measure up to my makeup service. • But like anything new and scary I had a choice: to stay scared and let my fear limit my progress OR lean in to the things that scared me and push myself to overcome the challenge. • I could burst with pride, I love these hair creations for recent bride Kat & her mum. • I loved loved loved her makeup too (and I’ll share some of the images of that too, soon) but today is ALL ABOUT THE HAIR! • Getting creative and being brave - pretty much sums up the journey I’ve been on since going full time freelance. • Are you planning your perfect bridal hair style?? • Up do? Half up/ half down? Loose waves? Comment ⬇️ I would love to know what everyone is thinking their big day!!! • 📷 by @simonhogben
C A L M • A very insightful photographer let me on a little secret not too long ago. He said that the best makeup artists & hairstylists leave a factor in a bit of time between finishing their job and when the bride needs to head to the ceremony. • It’s the only moment in the entire day for the bride to get a quiet moment on her own. A moment of CALM. • • Cue 💡 moment! • • Ever since then I’ve changed two major things about how I run my services at a wedding. • • 1.Running order: when I first started I felt I wanted to leave the bride to the end, so her makeup and hair would last the longest. But actually, I KNOW I create looks that are designed to last... so what difference does an hour or so make? By scheduling the brides in the middle of the running order she gets more time to be present on her day and for prep moments like getting into the dress and fastening shoes (A LOT harder that you’d think!) • • 2. Photographers: You lot are bloomin’ brilliant! I try REALLY hard to stay out of your way on a wedding morning... but now I like to interrogate you a little 😂 • in a nice way • I want ALL the 💎 gems 💎 of wisdom I can get! • • I love this gorgeous picture of my bride Sarah @bravegirlsbusinessclub by @maryannescottweddings capturing her calm moment.
F E E D B A C K • I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, LISTENING is such a key skill in makeup artistry. It’s not just about having hottest products and tools. To deliver the best results for your clients, you have to listen to what outcome they are trying to achieve. • Listening to feedback is equally important. I might create a look that I (and others) think is stunning. But if it doesn’t hit the client brief and meet their expectations, then I haven’t done my job. • Praise post makeover is completely precious. And not just because it makes me feel good. It means I’m getting it right for my clients - bridal, editorial, branding, etc. • Thank you so much to @just_brooke for this lovely feedback. I ❤️ being a #makeupgoddess
